Steve Kroeker, the owner/craftsman of Aspenwood Designs, has had an interest in woodworking since high school. Over the years, he pursued woodworking as a hobby and built a number of furniture pieces as well as a 21’ wooden sea kayak. His military service and multiple combat deployments kept him out of the shop a lot and away from his family. After retiring from the Army Reserves, he knew he wanted to expand his skills as a woodworker and found the time to complete a degree in Fine Woodworking from Red Rocks Community College in Lakewood, CO.
In school, Steve honed his woodworking skills and learned about the past, in the form of Arts & Crafts-style furniture, and the future, using new technologies and techniques to create high quality custom hand made furniture and accessories.
“I am passionate about custom woodworking and it is where I find peace and contentment in my life. I am drawn to Arts & Crafts-style furniture because of the simple yet elegant lines, the emphasis on exposed joinery as a design element, and the warm finish on the wood that makes you want to touch it. It takes you back to a simpler, less frenetic time in America.”
Steve lives with his wife near Colorado Springs, Colorado and holds a B.A. in Geography from the University of Montana and an M.S. in Forest Sciences from Colorado State University.
All of the products are built by Steve. He starts with hand-selected rough sawn wood, then machines the wood to make it flat, square and true. The grain and figure of the wood and the shape and role of each part in the design determines how each piece of wood will be utilized.
The handcrafted products created by Aspenwood Designs are made in America by a service-connected disabled veteran with multiple combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. I am proud to have served this great country and now I dedicate myself to creating the finest custom wood furniture and products that I can. Thank you for visiting.
